    "a little something extra"

One thing to love most about Louisiana living is our culture and uniqueness. There are things you all find absolutely no where else, just like shopping at Birdwell's!

On Wednesday, July 25th we will host our first "little something extra" from 10am-6pm. Throughout the day we will have fun giveaways and samples of our Birdwell's bread pudding. Also, with each retail purchase from 1-6pm you will get a New Orleans snowball treat. Streetcar Snoballs will be joining us, a Louisiana sweet treat to beat the summer heat!

The highlight of our event will be hosting three very talented Bossier Parish "raised" artists. They will share their southern inspired art and designs.

    Ashley Wachal Art

As a local artist, Ashley has created work using various forms of media; including sculpture, clay, printmaking, charcoal, pencil sketch, acrylic, and her preferred medium of choice, oil painting. Ashley will have various painted pieces for your home and gifting along with selections from her "shotgun series" available.

    Alaina Polander Design

New Orleans artist who loves to tell other peoples stories through calligraphy, a watercolor painting or custom stationery for personal use or their wedding/event. Alaina will have original watercolor paintings, game day prints and handcrafted southern styled stationary sets available.

    Laura Caraway Photography

Laura began her career in photography in 2016. She specializes in lifestyle and wedding sessions. Her talents take her all across the south to some of the most beautiful places to photograph. Laura will have some of her southern scenery photographs available, a Birdwell's exclusive!

We would love to see you, come on by!

  • "Be A Giver"

Recently, I was reflecting on some of the wisdom we learned as children from our grandmothers.  Outside of the “Golden Rule”, here are 5 “pearls” we picked up from 2 remarkable ladies we thought might be worth sharing:

    1. A spoken “Thanks-a-million” sets the tone and direction of ones day because it’s not happy people who are thankful, it’s thankful people who are happy.
    2. Have more than you show, speak less than you know.
    3. God gave your knees for prayer and hands and feet for work.
    4. Don’t look down on anyone unless you are helping them up.
    5. Be a Giver...it’s what you and the world needs!

At Birdwell’s, we do our best to live by these truths and our hope is each day we make a difference just as our two grandmothers did.

We would like to announce an opportunity to GIVE back and partner with the community to help support a local Back to School Supply Drive. The concept is simple, bring into the store any school supply item beginning July 15th though July 31st and along with Birdwell’s contribution, a collective donation will be made on August 1, 2018 to Bossier Elementary School. While in the store, enter a drawing to WIN a Mimosa Handcrafted “One Human Family” bracelet that will be given away on the day WE collectively MAKE OUR DIFFERENCE to our local school!

We are excited to partner with such a wonderful community of GIVERS and continue the giving tradition modeled by two special ladies.

    Thanks-A-Million,

    Angela and Gina

  • "The Best Is Yet To Come"

"The Best Is Yet To Come" is more than a forward-thinking statement to me. As a newly married couple many years ago, my husband and I walked into a church that taught this as a faith-based "mantra" about ones future in Christ.

So for me personally, "The Best Is Yet To Come" provides a resolve, a hope that our Best Days are ahead. Join us Friday, May 25th from 5-8pm and see this wonderful MIMOSA Handcrafted jewelry line and help us spread the THIS encouraging word!

  • Storefront Opening In April in Bossier City!

    We have a home!
We are excited to share that we have found a Birdwell's home!
Our location will be at 2151 Airline Drive, Suite 1100 in Airline Plaza in Bossier City with plans to open our southern styled store in April!

Our retail story began in June 2016 as we locally launched our online store with local friends and supporters at Good Eats in Bossier City.
From there, off we went with pop up shops, shopping events and junior league shows around the state. All along the way the support and encouragement from our family, friends, and customers has continued to inspire us to take the big leap to a storefront!

We certainly could not have come this far without the support of amazing local Bossier/ Shreveport business owners who opened up their shops to us along the way.

We are so grateful for every opportunity and door opened.
As Mamaw would say, "Thanks A Million" to each and every one of you!

We look forward to sharing our story, our store, Mamaw's (Birdwell's) hospitality and some of our favorite southern selections and traditions for your home. Exciting things ahead this spring!

  • The Making of our Favorite State Candle

One of the most wonderful things about Birdwell's for us is finding folks who are passionate about what they make and do and bringing those products to you. Our friends at Southern Firefly Candle Co. are just those kind of folks. A small home based business started with family in the southern kitchen. Sharing their blog story about our favorite candle, any doubt it would be Louisiana?

Enjoy, whip up some homemade beignets and treat yourself to a candle!

Making candles all day typically means we're surrounded by fragrance. It's usually not a problem unless the chandlers are pouring Louisiana Beignet. Oh. My. Yum. Beignets are typically a time intensive treat to prepare, but we have got a recipe that takes less time with the same great flavor! Trust me, your guests will appreciate this delicious treat!
The Making Of Our Favorite State Candle

    Instructions:
Using a mixer with a dough hook, place water, sugar, salt, egg, butter, evaporated milk, flour, and yeast into the bowl. Beat until smooth. Remove dough from mixer and form it into an oval into lightly-oiled bowl. Cover with plastic and let it chill in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours.

Remove the dough from the refrigerator and roll onto a lightly-floured board until 1/2 inch thick. Cut the dough into 3 inch pieces into any shape you desire.

Using a deep fryer or large pot, heat grease to 360 degrees fahrenheit. Once temperature is reached, begin frying beignets. Fry 3-4 at a time and flip consistently for an even cook on both sides (2-3 minutes).

While still warm, sprinkle powdered sugar on beignets. An easy way to achieve this is to pour powdered sugar into a bag, place beignets into the bag, and shake until evenly coated.

Enjoy your delicious beignets with a warm cup of coffee and a Southern Firefly Louisiana candle burning in the background!
